Mentorship Program for Interpreters and Interpreting Students
Signing Edge is working on developing high-quality mentorship programs that can help interpreters move up at least one certification level and interpreting students to pass the BEI interpreting examination. Our aim is to help increase the number of interpreters in the St. Louis metropolitan area and, therefore, increase communication access for individuals that rely on American Sign Language to navigate today’s world. We will update this page periodically to inform you of our progress in this area. Come back and check on our progress!
UPDATE — 9/18/2018: We have met with the Southwestern Illinois College interpreter training program and we will be working collaboratively with SWIC to develop a high-quality interpreter training program for interpreting students AND for certified interpreters who want to move up a certification level. We hope to have the program launched by June of 2019!
UPDATE — 5/21/2019: We now have 14 Certified Deaf Mentors. As a result, we will accept 7 interpreter students who are getting ready to take the BEI performance examination and 7 Basic certified interpreters who would like to move up to Advanced certification. Click hereto apply for the program!
